I’m trying to do market research for a niche target group (seafarers of industrial ships). For me it is very difficult to reach them. I made a survey which I promoted in several groups on social media. These groups included 25.000+ members, but I got a response of 5 filled in surveys. My question is, how to do a proper market research where I can really reach out to the seafarers? And let them properly fill in my survey? If anymore information is needed, I’m happy to provide you with these. Thanks in advance, Nick van Oorschot

Hi Nick, I have had success with using SurveyMonkey (a paid service) to get responses to surveys from targeted audience. I am not sure if you will find seafarers. The one I did was targeted at healthcare professionals. For groups on social media, offering an incentive (chance to win a gift) may be something to consider in order to get a higher response rate. Hope this helps. Publicada el 15/05/pm

Hi Nick, Search for people that are in your target group on LinkedIn. Join all the associated LI groups, create a free webinar offering a free promo, give away (for example a free canal ride or free Heinken brewery tour ;) ). Find marketing, business development professionals in industrial ships, seafarers and ask if they would be willing to share your survey. Attend local meetups, go to the docks, get out there to the companies to see if they will do the survey. Make it simple. Maybe even create a QDR, bit.ly link to the survey and share on facebook, twitter, instagram. Join and share with all professional, including expat groups on FB in The Netherlands. I was in Amsterdam a few months ago. You may have luck there as well. Find and narrow professionals you seek, go to the docks, have a happy hour give away. Share the survey during multiple times of the day (between 9am and 11am; 14.00 and 16.00; then 18.30 and 21.00). Good luck Publicada el 04/06/pm
