How do I start to network in my particular business interest?

I'm interested in starting a nonprofit business that is a community program that specializes in tutoring, mentoring, literacy and computer training but I'm not sure how to start networking.

You would probably have to use different avenues for different segment of people. Social media weebsites will be good platform for connecting with other non profits, professionals and community organizations.

For spreading a word you may have to connect with district libraries, schools etc.

From what I gathered, your community based venture would most benefit from the old fashioned personal marketing.  Preparing some informational materials and distributing thoughout the community (i.e. libraries, schools, non-profit and other orgs., community events, chamber of commerce....).  If you want to use the internet, I would use local sites and community message boards.

The specific websites and groups would depend on your specific area of interest, however I would explore the following avenues for any interest: - Social Media has become very relevant and even the epicenter of networking. Be intentional about your brand and the people you follow, the people you allow to follow you, the posts that you are putting up, the posts that you are liking, etc. LinkedIn is more for business connections traditionally however all social media outlets have found a way to incorporate business networking as well. - Chambers of Commerce are a great way to meet all of the local business owners in your field of interest to network and explore - Referrals remain an under utilized avenue here, once you have a strong relationship or group built, ask for referrals into others - Start with your personal network and build from there

Your network is essentially your net worth, and so it is a long and exciting journey. Do not burn any bridges and always try new ways to meet new people. Assume positive intent.
