Should I create a company before I start publishing ebooks and audiobooks as a publisher.

I want to start an online publishing business producing ebooks and audiobooks for Kindle, Createspace, etc. I am totally new to running my own business and have not started yet. I am at the point of trying to source freelance writers and identity if I need to form some kind of legal entity at this very early stage amongst many other questions. I am Australian and live in Japan but would prefer not to set up a company in either place as I dont intend to live in Australia and pay its taxes or Japan because the language barrier is too and I dont have the resources yet to pay to have everything relating to this translated/done by someone else. The long goal is to create a small mobile online business that legally located in a low tax area.

You don't necessarily have to create a legal entity until you start earning money. On the other hand, a legal entity could look professional and create trust when you are trying to approach freelance writers.

In the US and most countries with English heritage, the only benefit to incorporate sole proprietorships in the very beginning is to minimize risk. Produce ebooks or audio books seem like very low risk, depending on the topic (will people be using it as a technical resource or are you discussing real people?). As you have no sizable investment or risk I would not bother to incorporate at the moment. That being said, the Japanese legal system has a different heritage and I would recommend seeking out a local resource to consult if there are any unforeseen issues you could run into, best of luck.

When you step in some new world you need a mentor. A mentor is the one who is always here for you in your difficult 10 books everyone should read times. If you do not know about one thing he will guide you about it. He will give you confidence that you can do it. Your mentor has more confidence in you then you.
