How do you reach out to sales channels effectively?

I have started a local design company in Vancouver specializing in innovative wood design and services called www.konisastudio.com #mce_temp_url# .  Understandably, I find it quite difficult to reaching out to gift shops and related businesses as they appear to be quite regimented in terms of accepting new products.  Although, I have a feeling that most owners have a definitive way of going about their business and need to be persuaded in order to trying out something different, is there a benefit of the doubt that retailers require certain standards in order to feel confident in selling their products?

And if so, what are some key requirements that retailers and owners need to have from their sellers?

If retailers and owners know they will gain some sort of benefits, financial specifically, they would not mind offering you a small space/table/corner for you to display your products.

Instead of gift shops, try other businesses such as gas stations, restaurants, hair salons - where your products aren't competing with what they're selling.  What you want to present is a win-win scenario when reaching out to other business owners.
