Vincent – As a marketer who has hired many graphic design firms, the best way to get noticed by potential customers is to show your work.  A couple of ways to do this include:

Volunteer your design work in exchange for promotion. Art museums, volunteer groups, etc. are always looking for volunteers. If you design a newsletter or invite, they will list you as the designer.  These pieces are viewed by many members of the community and having your name associated with a reputable group will increase your credibility. The contacts you will make volunteering will also help your business. Contact your local Chamber of Commerce.  They often have networking events for local businesses that you can attend, have a booth or provide graphics for the invites. A terrific website is a must and make sure you can be easily found by Google and other search engines. Showcase your work and ensure that your SEO is optimized.  Hire an SEO expert to do this if you do not know how to do it yourself.  It will be worth the cost. Make sure you are listed in business directories in your area. Don’t forget to cold call.  Join Linked In and look for marketing directors or VPs for companies in your area. Call them up and ask for an appointment. If they won’t meet with you, ask for the opportunity to send them your info and a link to your site. Follow up with them every three months or so. Promote yourself by applying for design awards and also sending out press releases to your local media for every new client you acquire (with the client’s permission).

Best of luck!

Tina had very good ideas.  Could you try them and come back to us when you have new questions?    Architects often hire graphic designers.  Try visiting them in person and showing your portfolio
