What I need help with

My background as an entrepreneur

My current challenges

I have vision and I can evaluate the scientific validity of nutritional solutions to mental illness on my own so I know which products are safe and good investments to support. I need help figuring how how to execute the launch of a non-profit. I need help identifying a good board of directors. I need guidance for drafting a business plan. I would like to learn how to fundraise effectively through social media. I would like to acquire seed money for operational funding from philanthropist or grants.

Actions I’ve taken so far

I networked with friends in the non-profit world and watched youtube videos to determine first steps towards creating a non-profit. I am reaching out to people to find out if they would be interested in partnering with me in this endeavor or networking me with people who share my heart and have the skills needed on a board of directors that make a non-profit successful. I purchased a courseara subscription to gain access to course work to help me gain skills I may need along the journey. I took a non-profit grant writing course in undergrad. I am reading the book "How to Launch a High-Impact Non-profit" by Charity Entrepreneurship. I intend to get certified in non-profit essentials on "Nonprofitready.org." I have been perusing audio content produced by "Effective Altruism Global".

My future goals

Once I have figured out the details of how to structure my organization, I want to fund raise for a pilot program and apply for operational grants. I would like to automate the process of determining financial aid for supplements (immediate goal) and integrative psychiatric care (distant goal) . I think I need to create a program evaluation plan to sustain future grants. I'd like to create a podcast where people share the stories of how they overcame/ managed mental illness in hopes that it promotes awareness of the efficacy of nutritional solutions for mental illness in addition to creating visibility for my organization and increases revenues. I also would like to have a YouTube channel devoted to discussing how to manage mental health on a budget for the purpose of generating a sustainable source of income.

My motivations to work with a mentor

I know I have good ideas but I am unsure about how to implement them. My ideas were informed by my experiences seeking mental health care as an unemployed person in a state that did not let me use SSI or Medicaid. I know what was inaccessible. I know the side effects of most psychiatric meds and how they limit reproductive agency. I want to expose the world to alternative solutions so that people can gain control and improve their quality of life.

About my venture

Empowered to Heal

Vision: A world where people of all social and economic backgrounds have equitable access to alternative mental health treatments.

Mission statement: To promote agency in mental health treatment options for people of low income by funding treatments of the patients' choice.

Many facets play into mental illness. Conventional mental health treatments address the biological element of mental illness through pharmaceuticals. However, the biological component of mental illness can also be addressed nutritionally. Unfortunately, these nutritional solutions are not accessible with insurance. Many people shy away from treating mental health with pharmaceuticals for a broad variety of reasons. Whether they be cultural, spiritual, or scientific, our mission is to provide access to empirically proven safe and efficacious solutions. Empowered to Heal exists to provide financial assistance to people in any way they deem is best for them in their recovery process. Money should not be a limiting factor to being a free agent and making decisions that are best for you.
